VOWTECH helps businesses run more on less hardware. We design virtualization hosts, install and configure the hypervisor, convert existing physical servers into virtual machines and support the environment afterwards — for server consolidation, virtual desktops and applications that need an isolated place to run.
Virtualization lets one physical machine run several independent servers at once. Each virtual machine has its own operating system and applications and behaves like a separate computer, but they share the processor, memory and storage of the host underneath. A layer of software called a hypervisor — VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V are the common examples — keeps them apart.
For a business with a handful of ageing servers, each doing one job and mostly sitting idle, this changes the economics of the server room. Fewer boxes to power, cool, maintain and replace, and a new server becomes something created in minutes instead of ordered and waited for. We size hosts from our server solutions range to carry the combined load with room to grow.
Consolidation also concentrates risk, so design matters. A single host with no fallback is a single point of failure. VOWTECH plans shared storage, a second host where the budget allows, and Veeam backup and disaster recovery from the start, and supports virtual environments in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and across the UAE.
The same idea applied at three different levels. Most businesses start with servers and consider the others later.
Physical servers are consolidated as virtual machines on one or more hosts. This is where most companies begin, usually when several servers are due for replacement at the same time.
User desktops run centrally in the server room and are reached from a thin client, laptop or home PC. Data stays in the data room rather than on devices that travel.
An application is packaged or published so that it runs in its own isolated environment. Helpful for legacy software tied to an older operating system or that conflicts with other programs.
Design, build, migrate and support — as one project or as individual pieces.
We measure what your current servers really use in processor, memory, disk and network terms, so the new hosts are sized on evidence and not on the old specification sheets.
Number of hosts, shared storage, network layout and failover behaviour are designed together, because a virtual platform is only as strong as its weakest shared component.
VMware or Hyper-V is installed and configured on the hosts, with virtual networking, storage connections, management tools and resource rules set up properly.
Existing servers are converted to virtual machines and tested before the original hardware is switched off, with a fallback available until you are satisfied.
With two or more hosts and shared storage, virtual machines can restart automatically on a surviving host if one fails, and be moved for maintenance without stopping.
Hypervisor patches, version upgrades, capacity checks and the clearing of forgotten snapshots and unused machines that slowly consume storage.
Migration is done in stages so there is always a working system to fall back to.
Current server usage, dependencies and licences are recorded over a representative period.
Hosts, storage, networking and backup are specified and the migration order is agreed.
Host hardware is installed and the hypervisor, storage and networks are configured and tested.
Servers are converted one group at a time, outside working hours, and checked by your users.
Backups are confirmed, documentation is delivered and the old hardware is retired.
The gains are practical rather than dramatic: less hardware, quicker changes and easier recovery.
Fewer physical servers means less power, cooling, rack space and fewer maintenance renewals.
New servers and test environments are created from templates instead of waiting for equipment.
A whole virtual machine can be restored onto different hardware, which simplifies disaster recovery.
